ROUND 4 UPDATE

Why the %$%?*!?! did it have to be Collingwood that broke Carlton’s losing streak?”

Cloud Callout: Coolio, I am lost for words.
Devastated and extremely disappointed.
Much like I’ll feel when I find out you’ve recycled this 3 year old photo of me for the FOURTH time in your stupid email.

ROUND 4

THE ‘NEMESIS’ ROUND

After completion of Round 4, we celebrate some of history’s most famous ‘nemesis’ pairings!

It seemed appropriate, after Big Bad Bazza brought back the biff this week, that we celebrate some of history’s most famous battles!

But I’m not talking about the famous Turku-Italian war of 1911-12.

What I’m talking about ladies and germs are the good old hard fought battles between two arch enemies!

I’ve listed a few below. If anyone can think of any other good ones let me know. I’m all ears!

Amateur photo submission of the week

Title: ‘The Swans all look so tall!’

Photo submitter: Brent Staker (West Coast Eagles) with a special thanks to BIG BAD BAZZA for the unique photo angle.

The Swans enjoy another big win.

Funny Face of the week

Cloud Callout: Ummm. So let me get this straight. One minute we were 8 goals up, and now the siren’s gone and we’re standing around looking stupid.
Why does this feel like déjà vu all over again?

WEEKLY WINNERS ARE GRINNERS:

2008 Weekly Winners

Round 4

1st – SUPERBOOT

SUPERBOOT made a comeback to the game this week, after 366 games of senior footy with Franco Cozzo’s club “Foot–es-scray” and everyone’s second favourite team, Fitzroy.

I’m not sure if our SUPERBOOT can kick a footy, but he sure can tip. Although tipping the Blues to beat the Pies must have been an accident! Fat fingers or something. I mean, you wouldn’t do something silly like that on purpose would you? Not even Fevolution or The Phantom Tipster tipped the Blues!

I mentioned last week that I’m over the Flight Ops members of this tipping comp out tipping the Network Ops tippers. Only Roadie, Marshy and kezndes have been putting up the fight to the Flyboys (and girls) so far. The rest of you Net Ops tippers might consider changing comps and joining Brent Staker’s tipping comp, where there’s no need to put up a fight!

So....... if some more Net Ops team members don’t pull their fingers out soon, I’m going to turn the fighting privileges over to the Nippers.

Anyway here’s a picture of SUPERBOOT celebrating his win this week, just before heading out to the park for a kick in his tight white shorts.

2nd – Iceman

Here’s a Nipper that we might draft into the Net Ops team. Iceman’s less than ten years of age, but more than five I’m guessing.

I’m also guessing that because of his age, he hasn’t actually seen Top Gun!

What I don’t have to guess however, is that he would already be taller than his dad!

Poor old dad Lachie has copped a bagging about his stature year after year, in my weekly updates. And yet, he’s such a good bloke he’ll still go and get me a coffee whenever he’s heading over to Aromas.

I recommend anyone who wants a coffee, let Lachie grab it for you. When he gets me a coffee, there’s always an extra sweetness added to the flavour, and I’ve never been able to put my finger on what it is! I bet he’s putting an extra sugar in it for me or something! I wonder.

So, well done Iceman. You’ve moving up the Nippers ladder after this sterling effort!

3rd – threeandhalf

It gives me great pains to say this but I was oh so close to getting a mention in my own tipping update this week. I was beaten out of third place by a Comrade from Camden.

But, it’s my update, so back to me for a minute.

I thought I had it in the bag. I picked the Bulldogs by a margin of 29 on Friday night and they won by 30. So I thought 6 winners and a close margin will get me somewhere up near the top.

You can understand my reasoning here. Tipping the Lions to beat Port was a good move, and surely the Pies and those idiots from South West Perth would win their matches?

On Saturday night I was dreaming what I’d do with the $20 I’d won.

So Sunday arvo kicked off and the Hawks looked good.

6 from 6. Woohoo. Tipping well Coolio.

I’d prepared my lounge room for the Pies v Blues. The sofa was fluffed up. The rum and coke was mixed. The Mrs was sent to the park with another dodgy Lions supporter Virginia.

I even had some celebratory chocolate that I’d prepared earlier, ready to be scoffed.

Half way through the 3rd quarter reality smacked me in the face. Or it may have been Big Bad Bazza, I dunno. But it hurt.

And wasn’t I glad that both the Fev and the Phant had politely declined my offer of a couch and big screen TV for the arvo!  Free beer wasn’t on offer, which may have explained the “sorry we’re too ashamed we’re Carlton supporters and want to watch it by ourselves” responses that I got!

And then to top it all off, my old mate threeandhalf (don’t ask me where his nickname comes from I just know him as ‘Ringpiece’) has pipped me at the line by tipping the Doggies by 30.

Although, I think he deserved to beat me did my old mate from Camden Tower 120.1 MHz!

It might make up for the day I called him up and told him I was downwind, but was really sitting in the 152, in the hangar, laughing my head off! He spent many a lazy Camden afternoon looking for me through his big binoculars!

THE NETWORK OPS NIPPERS LADDER

(Where it’s cool to like ‘Wii’ – for all you oldies, it’s pronounced “wee”).

It’s a close, tough battle in the Nippers, with no room for error!

FootyFreak97, commonly known as Lachie Two Bums, is one in front of Iceman. You’ll have to be quick Iceman, if you want to catch this FootyFreak! He’s very fast and has honed his skills roving for the Pittwater Tigers. He’s much freakier than FootyFreak85!

Bones is riding the crest of a Demons wave of (whatever the opposite of success is) and tipping well, so well in fact that he’s giving his old man, PTB, a bit of a hurry on!

Some photos of Bones tunnelling into a pack and coming out with the ball would be appreciated PTB. I’ll send them on to my mates at the Demons and see if I can get him a game!

Level on 20, and only one behind Bones and Iceman, are Hot Dog and ‘lil Plugger (the artist formerly known as the ‘Electric Drummer’).

I reckon ‘Big Plugger’ ate a few hot dogs in his career at full forward, but I do know for a fact that ‘lil Plugger would much prefer one of his auntie’s top pancakes. And he plays at centre half forward, so he’s a fair bit more mobile than big Plugger was!

So you’re safe Hot Dog!

For now!

‘lil Plugger is coming to Brissie in a few weeks to see his old mate Dave Grohl bash a few chords out at the Entertainment Centre. Both he and his Uncy Herb can’t wait!

1. FootyFreak97 - 22

2. Iceman - 21

3. Bones - 21

4. Hot Dog - 20

5. ‘lil Plugger - 20

Housekeeping

I’ve chased up all the entry money – so here are the final prize ‘divvys’

Now that the money’s been counted, and the bookies have been pacified, I can ‘officially’ declare the prizes for this seasons comp.

It’s big money this year, so pull your collective fingers out and start studying the form guide. If you’re tipping poorly, then start studying a different type of form guide! Bluey already has.

Total prize pool = Number of paid up tippers 73 x $20 = $1460

Weekly prizes = 22 rounds x $20 = $440

Remainder of prize pool for end of season winners = $1020

1st place = $500

2nd place = $250

3rd place = $150

4th place = $70

5th place = $50
